(Wood Ducks and Slider Turtles - Aix sponsa and Trachemys scripta)
One common scene in the ponds and rivers of South Georgia is that of turtles and wood ducks at rest. I have seen both turtles and wood ducks using the same log for a napping place. Although they sleep together, that does not make them best friends. Many times though, turtles of different species, especially those of the snapping variety, are to blame for the deaths of baby wood ducks in the spring. |
