 "Morning Light" -
(Viceroy Butterfly - Limenitis archippus)
Three butterflies in our area look similar to one another: the Viceroy, the Gulf Fritillary, and the Monarch. I have a pretty good eye for identifying the Fritillary, which is smaller and more prevalent than the other two. Monarch Butterflies are easily distinguished from the Viceroy because the Monarchs lack the black line across the hind wing. I saw this Viceroy feeding on rotting muscadine grapes in my Grandpa Goodman’s vineyard. |
