Just South of Fitzgerald

"Just South of Fitzgerald" - Watercolor canvas board- Image size - 8"x 10" - Private Collection

One of Fitzgerald's most famous landmarks is the large grain silo just south of the city square. The silo was built in 1954 by Mr. Benny Anderson. It can hold 535,000 bushels of corn. In the late 1970’s the silo top began to leak. My grandpa Goodman and my uncles Eddie and Bobby constructed the metal roof over the six bins on the south end of the structure. Millions of kernels of corn have flowed through this silo over the years. At one time, this business ground feed for livestock and shipped out grain from Fitzgerald by rail.
