"Seeking a Sip" -
(Mourning Dove -Zenaida macroura)
Acrylic on Canvas - 8" x 10" Image - 11 1/2" x 13 1/2" Framed - $900.00
In many states Mourning Doves are considered to be a songbird species. However, in Georgia, Mourning Doves mean "get your gun."
Dove hunting is a southern tradition that I dearly love. From a young age my friends and I would spend many a day hunting these swift and cautious birds over corn or peanut fields. Being as wary as they are, it is hard to approach the birds if they are not used to the presence of people. I was able to get reference photograph for "Seeking a Sip" in the alley that runs behind Paulk's Funeral Home in downtown Fitzgerald. Our city has become known for the wild chickens that roam our streets and neighborhoods. But if you look closely and long enough, you will see species as unique as Barred Owls, Cooper's Hawks, and Mississippi Kites. |
