"Alert" -
(White-tailed Deer - Odocoileus virginianus)
Acrylic on Water Color - 8" x 10" Image - 19" x 21" Framed - $400.00
I have been a deer hunter since I was twelve years old. Back then, the deer population was so low, you could hunt for a week and only see one or two deer. These days, the deer population has exploded to the point that you can legally kill up to 14 deer in one season. "Alert" describes the way I usually see deer. Most of the time, the deer see me way before I ever seen them. It is hard to sneak upon these animals in a squeaky wheelchair. My Pa and my brother Tracy plant food plots on their property every year for all types of wildlife. Last spring while riding around checking on food plots, I happened upon a doe feeding. We saw one another at about the same time. She could not smell me because the wind was blowing toward me. The doe could not figure out what I was, and started to stomp her front foot, snort, wheeze, and walk toward me. She snorted over 40 times before she decided to run off blowing the whole way.
