Fishing is my favorite pastime. At one time in my life, I wanted to be a professional bass fisherman. However, I would just as soon catch the humble blue-gilled bream and red-breasted sunfish. I have spent many hours on the Ocmulgee River with my grandpa Goodman and friends in pursuit of these tasty morsels. The female red-breast is not as colorful as her male companion, but she is just as much fun to catch as he is. My favorite way of catching red-breast is to fish on the bottom of the river using a tight line. Grandpa Goodman and my brother Tracy and I have spent much quality time together fishing in sloughs of the river in chase of these beautiful sunfish. Many times after catching an ice box full of red-breast, we would go back to grandpa's house boat. Tracy and I would clean the fish as grandpa fried up a mess of our catch for supper. After the table was set, we would sit on the back of the houseboat, eat, and enjoy the sounds of nature and the river.
