Spring

"Spring" - (Under a Water Oak) - Acrylic on canvas - Image size - 8"x 10" - $750.00

South Georgia's winters are to say the least somewhat questionable. I can remember a few cold winters that actually brought about enough freezing nights that temperatures dipped down into the teens and area ponds were frozen over with a thin quarter inch of ice. Most however, that I have experienced, have been a season of yo-yo temperatures that make you think it is spring one day and winter the next. Some folks think it makes for a bunch of sickness (and maybe it does) and don't like them, but as for me, it is prime weather. I love hot weather anyway. My grandma Weeks and I used to watch the nightly weather forecast and actually feel sorry for our Yankee friends up north as they endured below zero weather and feet of snow that lasted till June. And, if it just happens to snow or ice in South Georgia and you value your life, stay off the road for the day or so the frozen stuff stays around! Southern drivers may know how to drive on a muddy slick road, but driving on ice and snow in my part of the world can quickly move your address to a pine box. "Spring" was inspired from a morning out exploring on my brother's place. Tracy and Pa keep up three or four miles of trails on which I can ride to photograph nature and go birding. One of my favorite places to take pictures and explore is a sand hill near the front of the property. The morning I took the reference photo for this piece it was early and bright. I happened up on a developing fairy ring of mushrooms. There among a heap of fallen leaves and decaying forest matter popped a single blade of grass that glowed like the sun.
