Buckeyes are one of my favorite butterflies. But, that does not mean they like me. Most spring and summer Saturday mornings, I try to spend two or three hours exploring the woods and trails near my home for subject matter to photogragh as references for later creations. Without fail, I cross paths with several buckeyes. And without fail, I spend much time chasing these jittery bugs around in circles. They fly away just before I can manage to push my camera's shutter button. They know exactly what I am up to. I know they do because, anytime I don't have a camera with me they will almost let me run them over. I managed to catch this Buckeye resting in a seed head of Bahaya Grass. Even though his wings were ratty looking, he only allowed me one click. Then of course, he flew away.
